Accent and muted strum

An accent (> or a bolder arrow) means: stress this strike — hit harder. A muted strum (an x over the arrow, "chuck") is a percussive strike with damped strings — the dry "chk" between the ringing strikes. Both give a pattern dynamics without changing a note.
