Practicing isn't playing through

Most people sit down, play a song front to back, botch the same spot as always, and play on. That's playing, not practicing. Practicing means finding the spot that doesn't run and working exactly that until it sits. The difference sounds small and decides your progress: whoever only plays through repeats their mistakes instead of fixing them.
