Tempo

The same strumming pattern played slowly and quickly stays identical note for note; only the speed changes, and with it the effect.

Tempo is the speed of the underlying pulse, measured in beats per minute. What matters is its independence: tempo and pattern are two separate controls. A strumming pattern keeps its internal division no matter how fast it's played. That's exactly what the standard practice method rests on — take the tempo well down, play the figure cleanly, then increase step by step without changing anything about the pattern. The tempo controls in the practice tools work the same way.
