Why distributed beats marathon

Back in 1885, Hermann Ebbinghaus showed that what's learned across several sessions sticks better than the same amount in one long session — even at identical total time. Ten minutes daily across a week beat seventy minutes in one day.

The reason lies in the gaps: between sessions the brain consolidates, strengthens the myelin sheaths of the nerve pathways involved, and integrates the new ability. These processes take time and run not during practice but after it. Continuity is therefore more decisive than the length of any single session.
